Closing or Changing Your Business 

Closing a business or account

It is very important to notify the agency(s), where registered, once the business has closed, to avoid unnecessary notices and bills to the business.

To close accounts with the SC Dept. of Revenue:

  1. To close SC Dept. of Revenue accounts online, go to MyDORWAY.dor.sc.gov
  2. To close SC Dept. of Revenue accounts by paper use the form C-278 Account Closing Form
  3. To close your Alcohol and Tobacco account use the L-1278 Form

To change your information with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS):

Contact the Internal Revenue Service business line at 1-800-829-4933. Visit the IRS website here. 


To dissolve/terminate your business registration or cancel the authority to do business registration with the SC Secretary of State:

If your business is registered with the SC Secretary of State and you wish to dissolve/terminate or cancel your business registration, complete the appropriate form for your business type as listed below, which you can find at sos.sc.gov or by clicking on the links provided below.

  1. To close your account online go to dew.sc.gov/suits
  2. To close your account by paper form use the Employers Report of Change (UCE-101-s)

To close your accounts with other State agencies
If you have Licenses/Permits/Registrations with other agencies, contact those agencies directly.

 

To close your account with the town, city, or county
If you have a license, permit, or registration with the county or other municipalities, contact the issuer directly.  Many businesses have at least one local business license.

Changing a business address, name, and other registered info

 

SC Dept. of Revenue:

  1. To make changes to SC Dept. of Revenue accounts online, go to

  2. To make changes to SC Dept. of Revenue accounts by paper use the form SC 8822

If your business is registered with the SC Secretary of State and you wish to file an amendment to your business registration or change the registered agents address, you can do so by either paper form or online at sos.sc.gov
